Effie: Hellooooooo, today I am here with the lovely cutiepie Gemini. How do you feel about this nickname?
Gemini: Sssshh, that was our secret name no one was supposed to know about.
Effie: ^o^ I’m pretty sure everybody already knows about it, ha. So how are you doing today? Think we can conduct this interview in ~25 mins?
Gemini: LET’S ****ING GO
Effie: OKAY. So, yesterday night. How’d you feel going into your matches against ppgRayray? Nervous? Excited? CONFIDENT?
(I slept a full f@#$ing 8 hours last night, so the readers better be ready for enthusiastic, hyped-up Effie.)
Gemini: Well of course I was feeling mildly confident, slightly nervous as anyone obviously would and excited as well! It was a tense match up coming up and the most difficult one in my tournament run so far so it was a good experience.
Effie: So since I watched those games live and don’t need to watch the replays, let’s talk about game 1. You forge fast expanded on Shakuras, is this your standard PvZ opening on that map?
Gemini: Absolutely, it’s just about every Protoss’s standard on that map. If you don’t you risk putting yourself extremely far behind.
Effie: Did you know what Rayray was doing most of the game? I think we [GreenMachine, Timmay, Stebo] noticed you didn’t scout that much.
Gemini: Honestly no. The one drawback of the build I was doing is that you really don’t know what he’s doing at all. I knew there was at least a natural up but I had expected a very fast third from Rayray. The build is designed to be able to punish nearly every style of play and set up a macro game if the push isn’t successful, so it was a good way to open up a series on a map like that.
Effie: Yeah, we noticed Rayray made a mistake with the first push. What was your plan after you killed all those speedlings and his first push failed?
Gemini: When I noticed I killed literally everything my immediate reaction was to just push his front. Hard. His push actually came right as mine was about to leave as well so it was a good timing on that part.
Unfortunately I did forget to put down extra pylons before I killed off the one at my front to let my army out, so that did delay my push a bit, and he also got a lucky snipe on all my sentries in the middle of the map while I was setting up my third. So the push was delayed a little more than I had wanted to.
Effie: Yeah, I noticed that you did delay the push a little bit, kinda made me antsy. But anyway, you did go on to win that match beautifully. Is there anything you would’ve done differently?
Gemini: My 3rd was a tad late, and I should have taken a 4th much quicker as well. My economy wasn’t exactly where it could have been, my adrenaline got to me at that point but luckily it didn’t matter in the end. It’s been a while since I’ve played a game streamed for a tournament match like that. Gotta get used to it again ^^
Effie fails at remembering what map the second match was played on ~o~
Effie: Take 2: Okay, onto the second game! This game was played on Xel’naga Fortress. Your build seemed pretty safe, I believe it was a 2gate sentry fast expand. What was your mindset going into this game?
Gemini: I came into that game expecting Rayray to do some sort of cheese and/or all in. The build I had prepared in that situation was a 2gate sentry expand that my friend Boyo showed me, with my own twist of getting two more gateways that finish in time for at least one round of warp ins to help prevent a roach ling all in.
If he didn’t go for an all in however, I could then use the 4gates as a delayed timing push where most zergs get caught off guard due to the weird timing that it hits at.
I also wasn’t too familiar with that map vs Zerg, so I just went safe. It didn’t look safe to do a FFE on that map at all.
Effie: Yeah, your build seemed to be the correct response against his roach/ling push. Were you worried when he attacked? I know the viewers on the stream were probably unsure of who was going to come out on top.
Gemini: I wasn’t at all worried that much during the long duration of that back and forth battle. I was a little bit annoyed when I realized too late that my pylons were a little bit exposed and I didn’t have all the room I wanted to move around in my natural when he picked off those pylons to unpower my two gates at the front. But the natural is good for forcefielding and I feel that’s what helped me out in that game.
I was also pretty on top of chrono-ing my warp gates as much as possible as well, and I was never supply blocked during that battle, something that would have easily happened to me in a ladder game due to my luck xD
Effie: Okay, one more serious question. How do you feel about Texmix being your next opponent? Will this be a BO5 series or still a BO3?
Gemini: I think it’s still a BO3… not sure though. Texmix is a very cheesy opponent so I feel if I can just perfect my PvP cheese defense I think I should take this series since Texmix isn’t exactly known for his macro play or APM.
Effie: Gemini has to leave for work, so we will continue this interview shortly.
Effie: Okay, welcome back! Let’s get right into it. We can do one word answers because I am uncreative and boring.
