Cannon rush? Cheese.
Zergling/Zealot/Void Ray rush? It’s a rush, happens ALL the time in tournament play.
The fact that you are ill-prepared for all the “cheese” you encounter is most likely why you’re not in Diamond/Platinum games. Not even trying to be harsh. It’s just if such simple minded/all-in style attacks beat you every other game, then you’re obviously being outplayed, plain and simple.
The whole “HOW COULD I HAVE WON THAT GAME?” statement makes no sense. If that were true, every PvZ would go EXACTLY like that, in every tourny and high lvl online play, because i mean, how can you win a 3 gate proxy rush? Obviously he lucked out and had proxied you while you were fast expanding, but had you one – had scouted late. And two – you chose to hatch before pool on a tiny-ass map like Xel’Naga Caverns, which has fast rush distances. An earlier scout into a roach warren or earlier spine crawlers would’ve easily salvaged and won that game.
The fact SC/SC2 has such unique units (i.e. DTs, Banshees, Reaper) it encourages a lot of harass/early aggression style play. It doesn’t mean you HAVE to rush, or HAVE to pull fancy drops. But come on, losing because you didn’t have any form of detection? I dunno that seems like one of those things you learn and incorporate into your builds, which turns a “**** how gay DT rush lolol guess I lose” into a “wow I’m glad I made a single overseer, completely raped that scrub.’
Sorry for the rant, I just hear about people crying about “cheese” all the time, and kids want to sit back and pretend to be Idra, just macroing away without worrying about preventing early harass and cloaked units.
I enjoyed the article a lot, and I’m glad Starfeeder has been picking up lately, I just don’t agree too much with some of the points you made
TLDR: If SC2 was all about staying put in your little base and building up a sick econ brah and amassing a 200/200 count army, this would be a TERRIBLE game.
